Labour Hire Licensing Commissioner, Steve Dargavel recently participated in the first ‘Fair Talk with Fair Farms’ event in February, discussing labour hire licensing and the horticulture industry.
Key topics of discussion included how labour hire licensing works to improve the integrity of the industry and resources available to workers and growers.
You can watch this talk in full on the Fair Farms YouTube channel.
Regional information sessions
LHA recently presented to providers and hosts at information sessions in Geelong and Ballarat. Key topics of these sessions included:
- Businesses’ obligations under Victorian labour hire law
- Current focus of labour hire licensing, compliance and enforcement
- Tools and resources to support businesses
- Questions and answers.
Feedback from attendees at these sessions was positive, including strong interest in LHA’s recent compliance activities. LHA’s engagement team also used the opportunity to meet with stakeholders such as local chambers of commerce and trades and labour councils.
Upcoming activities
LHA will be presenting at the upcoming Environmental Health Professionals Australia Conference to discuss the labour hire industry and regulating prescribed accommodation for labour hire workers.
LHA will also be attending the Big Meet careers fair at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on 20 March, to engage with young people looking to undertake labour hire work and advise them of their rights and how to report issues to LHA.
The free careers fair is targeted at undergraduates and recent graduates from all universities in the metropolitan Melbourne region. More information is available on the Big Meet website.
Details and registrations for all upcoming information sessions are available via the Events page on the LHA website.
