The Labour Hire Authority (LHA) works extensively with providers, hosts and their intermediaries in the labour hire industry. Working together with industry helps the LHA educate and take a tailored approach to promote compliance within the labour hire industry. The LHA engages with the industry in many ways.

Working with industry during compliance inspections

The LHA conducts compliance inspections across Victoria where our compliance officers work closely with providers, hosts and industry associations.

At recent inspections in the horticulture industry, compliance officers educated providers and hosts about their legal obligations and gave them an opportunity to voluntarily rectify minor compliance issues.

We also took the opportunity to meet with relevant industry associations in the region and were able to identify non-compliance trends, including record keeping requirements and accommodation standards.

Working with industry through engagement events

The LHA holds presentations to improve compliance in the labour hire industry.

Recent events include a presentation to the Victorian School Building Authority and development of an industry-specific fact sheet to educate school associations that engage school cleaners about their obligations as labour hire hosts.

The LHA also recently hosted the Security Industry Forum and sought feedback on new industry guidance material.

Director of Intelligence, Compliance and Enforcement, Natalie Wakefield says, “The consultation the LHA undertook with security industry providers and other stakeholders helps us improve our education resources and in turn, improve compliance in the sector. We look forward to future engagement with other sectors in the labour hire industry about issues that impact compliance.”

Keeping you up to date

In addition to our monthly newsletter and regular website updates, we will continue to keep you up to date by:

• hosting events and developing resources to promote industry understanding of the labour hire licensing scheme and other legal obligations that apply
• maintaining regular direct engagement with labour hire providers and hosts, and
• hosting forums for key industries and stakeholders.
